How To View > THE EXHIBITION. A GUIDE.
Welcome to the SFS Exhibition hosted at Bang & Olufsen. Searching For Sound. By Photographer Director Christina Holmes with Sound Architect David Andrew.
We are excited to share this journey with you. Please let us guide you through the episodes as you move through the space. The show is made up of media displayed on two floors and deeply connected sensory layers. First, you will enter the store and make your way through the upstairs panels, each showcasing a single episode in its own dedicated display. We welcome you to enjoy the analog printed image that will lead you into the interiors of each of the featured record shops. As you turn around, you will be able to take in, within the same panel, a film photographed and directed by Christina Holmes that brings to life the actual search for sound.
We highlight the reportage and storytelling in still imagery, accompanied by a voice-over of David's writing, drawing you deeper into the world of each episode. As well, we submerge you in an audio-designed score for each episode featuring the selections of sound from each dig, along with the audio nuances of the sounds of the moment.
Please make sure to put your temporary pair of B&O H100's on and turn on the sound canceling, and lose yourself in the dig with us as though you were there in person. At Panel 01, you will discover Episode 08 - Brooklyn Record Exchange. At Panel 02, Episode 02 - Human Head Records. And finally, upstairs at Panel 03, Episode 01 - Jazz Record Center, our very first episode.
As you wrap up upstairs, please feel free to ask the B&O staff to hear an episode in the dedicated audio room at the back of the store, featuring B&O's premium surround setup. Step in, close the door, and have a seat. We can't wait for you to hear the sound.
Once done, make your way downstairs for the continued special in-depth print exhibition, in large format up to 60x40, and in a collage of reportage. After you pass the hallway, you will enter the B&O residential space. Here we welcome you to Episode 04 - Academy Records LES in its entirety, with multiple large-format prints and a full audio-visual episode on the TV and B&O 5.0 setup. Next, make your way further into the kitchen for last but not least — Episode 05 - A1 Records. This icon fills the room in both print and moving image. Still, it starts by engulfing yourself in the printed exhibition, created in special collaboration with Legion Papers & PowerHouse Arts in Brooklyn, with whom we partnered on the printing, utilizing a special UV DiaBond printing technology with the traditional papers and texture of the Legion Artists Panels, variations of premium papers. This technique combined poses for a special print finish that can hold in the archival space without glass, showing the prints and film quality to their fullest. Once you have had a moment to take in the prints, turn around to the blue circle and focus in on the TV as we take you into the final dig — and the culminating SFS moment — at one of the most iconic record shops in New York.
We would also like to share two extra value-added bits via QR codes. Please scan the first QR code next to the exhibition to purchase the print you are looking at, which will take you to the SFS SHOP. Please scan the second QR code, and it will take you to a curated AUDIO BOOK for that episode, curated by David Andrew for you to download on iTunes.
Thank you for joining us — please enjoy the exhibition.
